About One Minnesota Writer

Beara Peninsula, Ireland
On the Beara Peninsula, Ireland – July, 2017

Kathleen Cassen Mickelson is a Minnesota-based writer who works in multiple genres. She loves to travel, hike, take photos, read, go to the movies, and spend time with family and friends. Watching or reading news and taking a walk with her dog is a daily habit.

In late 2014, Kathleen got together with fellow poet and friend Constance Brewer to found the quarterly contemporary poetry journal, Gyroscope Review, which they now co-edit. Previously, Kathleen spent five years on the editorial staff of the online poetry journal, Every Day Poets, until it discontinued mid-2014. She was also a flash fiction editor and reviewer at Fine Linen Literary Journal during its year in print in 2015. She has an M.F.A. in creative nonfiction from Hamline University, has taught creative writing workshops to both adults and teens, and has been published in a variety of places. Kathleen believes every writer should do a stint as a submissions reader or editor somewhere to see how it works from the other side of the equation.

This blog explores how to live a creative life, be kind, and make a difference.  It is constantly evolving, so stop by often. Leave a comment. If you’re stumped about what to say, leave a recipe.
