Happy Halloween from One Minnesota Writer

Halloween 2018
Truffles, our mini-dachshund, is pretty relaxed about the whole Halloween thing.

Take one day to be a kid for a minute. Carve a pumpkin. Eat some gooey candy. Put on a superhero cape. Turn off the television or computer and go run through some leaves.

I’ll be doing the same, as well as passing out candy in our driveway by the light of firewood ablaze in our firebowl. Halloween is one of my favorite nights of the year, when little kids get to be outside after dark and pretend they’re whatever character delights them, and everyone who asks gets a treat.

Happy Halloween, everyone. Be delighted.

  1. Halloween in Minnesota… ahhh the memories of long johns in under each costume! Snow White with snowy trick or treat. The time my brother ate so many root beer barrel candies that he blew up like the the blueberry gal from the Chocolate Factory movie. Fun times! Happy Halloween 🎃

    1. Those are good memories! I love watching It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and having a pumpkin carving party with my kids the last Sunday night before Halloween. And, of course, listening to Halloween-tinged songs like Monster Mash. But nothing beats the really little kids out for their first Halloween in costumes that may or may not stay put. It’s going be pretty nice here tonight so no long johns under costumes this year! Were you around for the blizzard on Halloween in 1992? Three feet of snow overnight and my son went trick-or-treating anyway. People dumped all their candy into his bag because he was the only one on the street who came out.

  2. I pretty much missed Halloween this year as we were vacationing in Detroit Lakes. But that’s OK. The daughter sent us a photo of the granddaughter dressed as Minnie Mouse. For some reason she is crazy about Minnie. And the color pink.

I hope your Halloween was a delight.
